McLaren-Mercedes appeal against points deduction at Hungarian GP
Aug 8, 2007, 15:32 GMT
Woking, Britain - The McLaren-Mercedes Formula One team confirmed Wednesday that has appealed the points penalty it received at last weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix when Fernando Alonso blocked team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the pitlane during qualifying.
Alonso, who initially qualified in pole position, was moved five places back on the grid as a result while McLaren missed out on 15 points in the constructors' championship after Hamilton won from pole position and Alonso came in fourth. Both drivers retained the points they received in the drivers' championship.
But the British-based team has now lodged an appeal with motorsport's ruling body FIA through the British federation. FIA has yet to announce a date for hearing the appeal.
Despite the penalty, McLaren continue to head the constructors' standings with 138 points from Ferrari on 119. The next race is the Turkish Grand Prix on August 26 in Istanbul.
