Jun 29, 2007, 11:27 GMT

Magny-Cours, France - Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa were quickest for Ferrari in the opening free practice session Friday ahead of Sunday's French Formula One Grand Prix.

Finland's Raikkonen set a fastest lap of one minute 15.382 seconds, beating Brazilian team-mate Massa by 0.065 seconds at Magny-Cours.

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton of Britain was sixth in 1:16.277, three places behind McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso of Spain who was 0.772 seconds off Raikkonen's pace.

The German Williams-Toyota driver Nico Rosberg was fourth in the session, with David Coulthard of Britain in a Red Bull fifth.

The leading 10 after Hamilton were completed by BMW-Sauber's Nick Heidfeld of Germany, Alexander Wurz of Austria in a Williams, Poland's Robert Kubica of BMW-Sauber and Toyota's Jarno Trulli of Italy.

Kubica was returning for the first time to racing after escaping a high-speed crash three weeks ago during the Canadian Grand Prix.

In the drivers' championship, 22-year-old Hamilton leads with 58 points, 10 points ahead of reigning world champion Alonso, with Massa on 39 and Raikkonen on 32.

Sunday's Grand Prix is the eighth of 17 races in the championship.
