Ferrari's Todt would like Schumacher to want team principal post

Hamburg - Ferrari general director Jean Todt believes Michael Schumacher should consider the position of team principal at the Italian Formula One team. 'I'd be delighted if he came to me and said: 'Team principal is the next stage in my career',' Todt said in an interview to be published in Wednesday's auto, motor und sport magazine. Schumacher drove for the famed Italian team for 11 years before retiring at the end of the 2006 season. He won five world titles in a row for Ferrari 2000-2004 as well as two for Benetton previously. He has continued working with his Ferrari team but in the background as an advisor to Todt and the Frenchman believes his driving career is certainly over. 'Michael was an exceptional driver who accumulated an unbeatable amount of titles and victories. When he retired, then he did so for good reasons,' said Todt. 'Michael is a member of the Ferrari family. We suggested to him that he remain part of the firm by being an advisor. He knows so much about cars, not only racing cars, that we want to use his experience.' Former Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn,who quit alongside Schumacher last October to take a 12-month sabbatical, has also been linked with the position of team principal at the marque. © 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
