Kubica tops Montreal practise, Alonso beats Schumacher (Roundup)

Montreal - BMW test driver Robert Kubica of Poland dominated Friday practise for the Canadian Formula One Grand Prix, with world champion Fernando Alonso the fastest race driver when he entered the frame in the second round of the day. Kubica led the way in the morning in 1 minute 16.390 for the day's leading time and was also first in the afternoon with 1:16.965 on the 4.361-kilometre Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The Pole, like the other test drivers, is only allowed to compete in Friday practise. Alonso had 1:17.095 in a Renault for the best time of a regular driver, with Williams tester Alexander Wurz third in 1:17.490 and Kimi Raikkonen fourth in a McLaren in 1:17.490. Former champion Michael Schumacher came 15th in that afternoon session in 1:18.549 minutes, almost 1.5 seconds slower than Alonso. Schumacher also had a few laps in the morning session where he clocked 1:18.994 to come fourth after a trio of test drivers. Alonso leads the 2006 championship with 74 from eight of 18 races from Schumacher (51) and Raikkonen (32), who won last year's edition of the race. Alonso is bidding for his first career win in Montreal, while Schumacher could get a historic eighth triumph at one race. Raikkonen, meanwhile, won the 2005 edition in Montreal.
