Hong Kong - The Tournament Director of the Ichor International & Habitat Property Hong Kong Invitational Cricket Festival 2006 confirmed today that the former Test stars Terry Alderman ( Australia) and Jack Richards (England) would be appearing at the 3 day club cricket tournament next week (17-19 November).
'This coming Ashes is the most eagerly anticipated series in years and it's wonderful to have two great former Test players from England and Australia at the Festival just a few weeks before the first Test,' said Festival Tournament Director Brad Tarr.
'I'm sure both Terry and Jack will be fielding all sorts of questions and comments about the Ashes from players during the Festival,' Mr Tarr continued.
Alderman, formerly of Western Australia , Kent, Gloucestershire and Australia, and Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1982, was a deadly outswing bowler who destroyed England taking 41 wickets during the 1989 Ashes series which Australia reclaimed. He also took 42 wickets in the 1981 Ashes series (Botham's Ashes).
Wicketkeeper Jack Richards represented England in 8 Tests and 22 One Day Internationals, including the successful 1986 Ashes series in Australia where he hit his career best 133 against the Aussies at the WACA.
The Ichor International & Habitat Property Hong Kong Invitational Cricket Festival will be held at Po Kong Village Road Cricket Ground, Kowloon from 17-19 November (the weekend after the International Sixes) and features local teams as well as clubs flying into Hong Kong from overseas including UK, Australia, India, Pakistan and China to compete in the three day tournament.
Last year's ICC award winning Festival featured a world record 34 competing sides including 14 teams from overseas.
The tournament creates a Festival Village on the weekend days (18 & 19 November) featuring bouncy castles, food & beverage stalls from Delaney's and Jashan Restaurant, and fun kids stalls with proceeds raised going to the 'Make A Wish' children's charity. The 2005 Festival raised over HK$30,000 for Make A Wish.
