Mohali, Oct 29 (IANS) Steve Bucknor of the West Indies Sunday became the third umpire in the history of one-day international (ODI) cricket to officiate in a 150th match.
The 6-feet 3-inches tall West Indian reached the personal milestone when he stepped on to the ground in the India vs Australia match in the ICC Champions Trophy here.
Only two others in ODI history have stood in 150 or more matches. They are: David Shepherd of England (157 matches) and Rudy Kirsten of South Africa (156).
Bucknor is also the only umpire to have been a referee in an international football match.
Referred to as 'slow death Bucknor', he is known for the time he takes to give his decisions - giving anxious moments to batsmen and teams.
He has also umpired more test matches than any other umpire in the world. He stood in his 100th test match as umpire in March 2005.
He made his ODI debut as an umpire March 18, 1989 at St John's (West Indies) in a West Indies vs India match.
The 60-year-old umpire's full name is Stephen Anthony Bucknor.
