Dharamsala, Sep 30 (IANS) Indian pace bowler Rudra Pratap Singh Saturday snared four wickets to help Uttar Pradesh beat Sialkot by 316 runs to win the Mohammed Nissar Trophy on the fourth and final day of the match between national champion teams of India and Pakistan.
Test cricketer Singh took four for 25 in 9.5 overs to help skittle out Pakistan's Quaid-e-Azam Trophy winners for a paltry 112 in 35.5 overs after Ranji Trophy champions Uttar Pradesh had set the visitors a mammoth 429-run winning target for the visitors in the fourth innings.
The Man of the Match award was won by former Uttar Pradesh captain Rizwan Shamshad for his two knocks of 80s that helped his team pile up the totals of 316 and 373 for seven wickets declared.
The tie is an attempt to have the national champions of India and Pakistan play against each other in a bid to develop people-to-people contact.
The trophy is named after Nissar, the legendary fast bowler who opened the bowling for India in its first Test against England in 1932 at Lord's in London. His son lives in Lahore, Pakistan.
Silakot made 261 in the first innings at the picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association stadium.
Apart from Singh, Salabh Srivastava took two wickets while P. Kumar bagged one to win the match in the absence of an indisposed skipper Mohammed Kaif. Suresh Raina led the team in Kaif's place.
Three Pakistani batsmen - wicket-keeper Khalid Mahmood, captain Imran Nazir and pacer Mohammed Asif - did not bat for various reasons, hastening Sialkot's downfall.
Shehzad Malik with 31 was the top scorer for Sialkot while opener Majid Jahangir chipped in with 27.
Brief scores: Uttar Pradesh 316 and 361/7 (Rizwan Shamshad 88, Ravikant Shukla 64, Tahir Mughal 3/96), Sialkot 261 and 122 (Shehzad Malik 31, Majid Jahangir 27, R.P. Singh 4/26, Salabh Srivastava 2/25)
Result: Uttar Pradesh won by 316 runs
Man of the Match: Rizwan Shamshad
