Vancouver, BC - Jarious Jackson completed 13-of-29 passes for 264 yards and Joe Smith rushed for a pair of touchdowns as the British Columbia Lions steamrolled the Toronto Argonauts, 40-7 to regain first place in the CFL's Western Division.
Smith carried 20 times for 99 yards and a pair of short touchdowns, and Geroy Simon caught three passes for 127 yards for BC (7-3-1), who leapfrogged the Saskatchewan Roughriders for a one-point divisional lead.
BC's defense limited Toronto to a scant 163 yards of total offense, thoroughly dominating throughout.
Michael Bishop completed just 11 of his 34 pass attempts for 125 yards Toronto, and also lost a pair of fumbles. The Argonauts turned the ball over five times and lost the ball three times on downs, and had a two-game win streak halted.
Paul McCallum's 40-yard field goal gave the Lions an early 3-0 lead, and they added to that edge with a one-yard plunge by Smith early in the second quarter.
BC extended its lead further with a safety and a pair of McCallum field goals, before Toronto cracked the scoreboard on Frank Murphy's one-yard touchdown run, making it an 18-7 game.
Following another safety the put the Lions up 20-7, BC's Mark Washington jarred the ball loose from Toronto receiver Andre Talbot. It landed in the hands of Ryan Phillips, who took his league-leading eighth interception of the year 57 yards all the way to the Toronto seven-yard line. One play later, Smith rolled in from five yards out to put BC comfortably ahead, 27-7.
BC added a pair of McCallum field goals before Brent Johnson scooped up a Bishop fumble and rumbled 31 yards for the score, making it a 40-7 game.
