Edmonton, AB - Ricky Ray completed 25-of-35 passes for 229 yards with two touchdowns and an interception as the Edmonton Eskimos held off the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 19-17, at Commonwealth Stadium.
Ray also led all Eskimos rushers, with 26 yards on five carries. Ron McClendon had nine catches for 71 yards for Edmonton (3-3-1), and Kamau Peterson added five catches for 67 yards and a score.
Jason Maas completed 22-of-41 passes for 263 yards and a touchdown for the Tiger-Cats (1-6). Maas also ran six times for 47 yards. Jesse Lumsden had 38 yards on the ground on eight carries with one score.
A 49-yard single by Nick Setta gave Hamilton a 1-0 lead with 8:43 left in the first quarter, but Sean Fleming's 40-yard field goal with 2:35 left put Edmonton up 3-1.
Fleming's single gave Edmonton a 4-1 lead, but Jason French's eight- yard touchdown catch with 1:37 left put Hamilton up 8-4.
Edmonton came back, though, with Ray finding Andrew Nowacki for a nine-yard score with 37 seconds left to put the Eskimos up 11-8 at the half.
The third quarter was all Eskimos, with another Fleming single and an eight- yard Peterson touchdown catch posting Edmonton to a 19-8 lead.
Hamilton came back in the fourth, with a Lumsden touchdown with 9:08 left and a Setta 27-yard field goal with 2:02 left, but their comeback fell short, as they turned the ball over on downs on their final possession
Game Notes
Edmonton had lost back-to-back games to Hamilton last year, knocking them out of contention for the playoffs...The Eskimos had only 37 yards rushing on 13 attempts.
