Toronto, ON - Wes Cates rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown and D.J. Flick caught five passes for 88 yards and a touchdown as the Saskatchewan Roughriders downed the Toronto Argonauts, 24-13, at Rogers Centre.
Kerry Joseph finished 15-of-23 for 188 yards and one touchdown through the air and also ran for 38 yards with a touchdown on seven carries for the Roughriders, who have won a season-high three straight games.
Rocky Butler, the fourth different Toronto starting quarterback this season, threw for 303 yards with one touchdown and one interception on 23-of-32 passing. Frank Murphy finished with seven catches for 122 yards and Arland Bruce caught a touchdown pass for the Argonauts, who have lost four straight games for the first time since 2001.
A five-yard touchdown run by Cates put Saskatchewan on the board with just about 11 1/2 minutes to go in the first quarter and a Toronto 20-yard field goal by Noel Prefontaine later in the frame cut the Argonauts deficit to 7-3.
The Roughriders, though, extended their lead when just 34 seconds into the second quarter when Joseph rushed into the end zone from 10 yards out and a 26-yard field goal by Luca Congi with just over 7 1/2 minutes to go in the period pushed Saskatchewan's lead to 17-3.
Toronto did pull within a touchdown before the half when with 3:40 remaining in the frame Butler hooked up with Bruce for a 34-yard touchdown pass.
A 30-yard field goal by Prefontaine with 3:13 left in the third quarter cut Saskatchewan's lead to 17-13.
A 14-yard pass from Joseph to Cates with 8:55 left to play in the fourth quarter capped the scoring
