Bombers and Als swap QBs

Jun 20, 2007, 18:35 GMT

Winnipeg, MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Montreal Alouettes have swapped quarterbacks, with the Bombers acquiring Kliff Kingsbury in exchange for Brad Banks.

Kingsbury was a record-setting collegiate quarterback at Texas Tech, as he threw for 12,429 yards with 95 touchdowns in just 43 games. He held 39 school records and 13 Big 12 marks at the time of his graduation.

'With this trade we were able to acquire a skilled quarterback that we have evaluated and liked for some time,' said Bombers general manager Brendan Taman. 'We like the abilities that he can bring to our offense.'

Kingsbury was a sixth-round pick of the NFL's New England Patriots in 2003, but spent the entire campaign on injured reserve with an arm injury. He has also been on the rosters of the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills, playing just one game with the Jets in 2005.

Banks saw limited action with the Bombers last season, throwing for 219 yards on 22-of-52 passing with one touchdown and three interceptions.

'It's tough to see a guy like Brad go, but he is now able to go to a team that will continue his development in this league and will have an opportunity to contribute there,' Taman added.

Banks starred collegiately at Iowa and was the 2002 Heisman Trophy runner-up.
