Tiger-Cats select Bauman first overall
May 2, 2007, 20:55 GMT
Hamilton, Ontario - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have selected University of Regina receiver Chris Bauman first overall in the CFL Draft held on Wednesday.
Bauman is the first receiver to be chosen with the top overall pick since Don Blair was taken by the Edmonton Eskimos back in 1996.
The native of Brandon, Manitoba led all Canadian university receivers in 2006 with 923 yards on 42 catches, scoring 10 touchdowns. He is the first player to be selected from Regina since Kyler Jukes was taken by Calgary with the 27th pick in 2005.
Bauman was selected after the departures of several key wideouts on a club which posted a league-worst 4-14 record in 2006.
Rounding out the remaining first round picks are Warren Kean, selected by Edmonton; Mike Gyetvai by Calgary; J.P. Bekasiak to Hamilton; Justin Phillips and Jarbari Arthur to Calgary; Richard Yalowsky by Montreal; Adam Nicolson by the B.C. Lions.
Hamilton's fifth round selection (33rd overall) was receiver Chris Getzlaf, whose brother Ryan plays for the NHL's Anaheim Ducks.
