Argonauts re-sign Allen
Feb 28, 2007, 20:10 GMT
Toronto, ON - The Toronto Argonauts announced on Wednesday that quarterback Damon Allen has re-signed with the club for the 2007 season.
Allen, professional football's all-time leading passer, threw for 790 yards and two touchdowns last season for the Argonauts.
'I'm excited about returning to the Argos, especially knowing that Grey Cup 2007 is in Toronto,' said Allen. 'It is our strong desire to win a championship in our home city. I want to thank the great Argo fans for encouraging me this off season to return to Toronto. They were a large part of my decision to remain an Argonaut for another season.'
The 22-year veteran has captured four Grey Cups in his career and was named the Grey Cup MVP twice.
Allen has thrown for 71,889 yards and rushed for 11,899 yards in his career. His rushing yards rank third all time in CFL history.
'I'm delighted that Damon has chosen to stay with the Argonauts,' said Argonauts offensive coordinator Steve Buratto. 'I will evaluate him as an athlete, without regard to his chronological age. He will come to camp and compete for the starting position. The passion he continues to show for this game and his skills should put him in good stead to win the job and take his team to the Grey Cup.'
