Roughriders re-sign a trio of offensive lineman
Dec 13, 2006, 16:20 GMT
Regina, Saskatchewan - The Saskatchewan Roughriders re-signed veteran offensive linemen Jeremy O'Day, Gene Makowsky and Jocelyn Frenette to multi-year contracts on Wednesday.
Per team policy, financial terms were not disclosed.
In his eighth season with the Roughriders, O'Day earned CFL all-star status for the first time in his career last season. The center started in all 18 regular season games and both playoff games for the club last year.
Makowsky finished his 12th season with the Riders where he started in all 18 regular season games and both playoff match-ups. The right tackle is the current ironman on the Green and White, playing in the last 158 consecutive regular season games, and received CFL all-star status for the third consecutive year. He was also the CFLs Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2004 and 2005.
In his fifth year with the Riders, Frenette played in 15 regular season games and the Scotiabank West Semi-Final as a back-up offensive lineman. He also served as the long-snapper on special teams and finished the season with four special team tackles.
'Gene and Jeremy represent everything that is good about our football team,' said Saskatchewan general manager Eric Tillman. 'They are great players and equally good people. Jocelyn is perhaps one of our more undervalued players and has a special skill which is very valuable. The bottom line - all three of these men are very important to the future of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.'
