Sep 17, 2006, 3:20 GMT
Hamilton, ON - Jason Maas completed 15-of-22 passes for 179 yards with one touchdown, as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats downed the Edmonton Eskimos, 27-22, at Ivor Wynne Stadium.
Maas faced the Eskimos for the first time since he was dealt to the Ti-Cats shortly after Edmonton's Grey Cup run last November.
Anthony Davis rushed for 54 yards on 13 attempts with one touchdown for the Tiger-Cats (3-11), who snapped a five-game losing streak. David Flick caught six passes for 114 yards with one touchdown. Kamau Peterson added three receptions for 24 yards.
Ricky Ray completed 24-of-40 passes for 323 yards but threw three interceptions for the Eskimos (4-8), who have dropped three of their last four. Troy Davis, who Hamilton traded to the Eskimos late last year, rushed for 38 yards on 10 carries and Ray added 48 yards on nine attempts with two touchdowns.
Edward Hervey caught seven passes for 114 yards, while Jason Tucker caught five passes for 67 yards.
Edmonton got on the board first as Sean Fleming converted a 40-yard single with 9:40 remaining in the first.
Hamilton's special teams got going next when Devon Fawlkes returned a punt 83 yards for a touchdown with 7:11 left.
Edmonton got the score back with just under a minute to go. Ray scampered in for a one-yard touchdown run to edge an 8-7 lead heading into the second.
Hamilton got going with 20 points in the second. Jamie Boreham converted a 41- yard field goal with 13:31 left in the second. Maas completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Flick with 7:51 remaining, and Anthony Davis scampered in for a three-yard touchdown run with 4:12 left.
Fleming converted a 46-yarder with 1:32 left but Boreham got the points right back on a 15-yarder with just two ticks left before halftime, as Hamilton led, 27-11.
Edmonton scored a safety with 4:27 left in the third for the only points scored in the quarter, as the Tiger Cats led, 27-13.
Fleming added a 34-yarder for the Eskimos with 10:04 remaining in the fourth, and Troy Davis scampered in for a four-yard touchdown run with just under three minutes left. The pass failed, however, and the Eskimos could not produce any more scoring.
The Eskimos got to the Hamilton 40-yard line with one minute remaining, but Ray fumbled and the ball was recovered by Hamilton defensive back Tay Cody.
Game Notes
The Ti-Cats re-signed running back Jesse Lumsden to a multi-year contract this week. Lumsden had attended the Washington Redskins camp earlier this summer but was released by the NFL team. When no other NFL clubs came calling, the former McMaster Marauder star decided to return to the Ti-Cats and commit to a contract that will keep him with the team at least through next season. Lumsden returned to Hamilton last year after first being released by Seattle, which he had signed with as a free agent.
Hamilton beat Edmonton 40-14 in their last meeting Sept. 30, 2005. The Eskimos last win at Ivor Wynne Stadium came July 5, 2003.
