Aug 23, 2006, 16:55 GMT
Regina, Saskatchewan - The Saskatchewan Roughriders wasted no time in finding a new general manager, signing Eric Tillman on Wednesday to be the club's new general manager and vice president of football operations through 2009.
On Monday, Saskatchewan released Roy Shivers of his duties. Tillman becomes the 14th general manager in franchise history.
'This is a special day for our family,' said Tillman. 'On a personal basis, we are very much looking forward to being part of this community. I am delighted to be afforded this opportunity. Saskatchewan is a special place with the best football fans in the country. As such, I understand the magnitude of this responsibility.'
Tillman has enjoyed great success in the CFL as a general manager, leading two different teams to the Grey Cup title (the BC Lions in 1994 and the Toronto Argonauts in 1997). Most recently, Tillman has worked as a television analyst with CBC and Sportsnet.
'I am very pleased that we were able to bring Eric to Saskatchewan,' said Rough Riders president and CEO Jim Hopson. 'He brings the club a wealth of CFL experience having been involved with this league for more than 15 years. After speaking and spending time with Eric I am fully confident in his ability to guide this team to a Grey Cup championship.'
