Hamilton solves road woes as Ticats down Blue Bombers
Aug 5, 2006, 3:25 GMT
Winnipeg, MB - Jason Maas threw for two touchdowns, as Hamilton snapped a 13-game road losing streak with a 26-11 rout of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Maas, who missed last week's game -- a 29-0 home loss to Winnipeg -- due to a hip pointer, completed 16-of-30 passes in this contest to help the Tiger-Cats (2-6) snap a two-game skid. It marked Hamilton's first road win since the 2004 season, when former head coach Greg Marshall was on his way to winning the CFL's outstanding coach award.
Josh Ranek rushed 27 times for 164 yards and Julian Radlein plowed into the end zone from a yard out in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Brad Banks completed 8-of-20 passes for 65 yards and Kevin Glenn threw for 51 yards and a TD for the Blue Bombers (5-3), who had a two-game winning streak broken.
Glenn connected with Andre Thurmon on a 15-yard TD pass early in the first quarter, but Maas hit Brock Ralph on a five-yard scoring toss in the latter stages of the period to bring the Tiger-Cats within 8-7.
Maas used a 37-yard touchdown strike to Ranek, nearly five minutes into the second, to give Hamilton a 15-8 lead.
After a Winnipeg safety, Jamie Boreham kicked an 11-yard field goal to boost Hamilton to an 18-10 lead at the half.
The teams traded singles in the fourth before the Tiger-Cats secured the victory when Ranek ran the ball into the end zone with 5:55 remaining.
Game Notes
Charles Roberts rushed 12 times for 79 yards for Winnipeg.
The Ticats last won a road game at Canad Inns Stadium on October 8, 2004.
