Jul 16, 2006, 3:00 GMT
Winnipeg, MB - Anthony Calvillo threw three touchdown passes to lead the Montreal Alouettes past the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 44-16, at Canad Inns Stadium
Calvillo went 27-of-45 for 261 yards with no interceptions and also had a rushing TD. Robert Edwards caught two of Calvillo's touchdown passes for the Alouettes, who improved to a perfect 4-0.
Kevin Glenn finished 14-of-28 for 262 yards with a touchdown and an interception for Winnipeg, which remains in second place behind Montreal in the Eastern Conference.
Montreal opened up the scoring just 1:10 in on Damon Duval's 40-yard field goal before Glenn and Chris Brazzell connected for a 75-yard TD pass seconds later to give Winnipeg a 7-3 edge.
Troy Westwood came through with a 27-yard field goal early in the second to make it a 10-3 Blue Bombers advantage, but Duval countered with consecutive field goals of 41 and 42 yards, respectively, to keep the Alouettes close.
Then, after a Winnipeg safety and Westwood's 38-yarder extended the Bombers advantage to six points, Montreal exploded for 28 unanswered points to take command.
With time running down in the second quarter, Mike Vilimek scampered for a one-yard touchdown run with one second remaining to put his team up 16-15 heading into halftime.
Calvillo scrambled for a two-yard TD midway through the third quarter, then connected with Thyron Anderson for a six-yard score later in the stanza to push the Alouettes lead to 30-15.
Edwards provided the highlight of the game early in the fourth, tipping the ball with one hand as he was falling down in the end zone and then corralling it with the other for a 14-yard TD reception that made it 37-15.
Troy Westwood's single midway through the fourth provided the final point for Winnipeg, and Calvillo's six-yard touchdown pass to Edwards capped the scoring.
Game Notes
The Alouettes are the league's only unbeaten team this season.
Winnipeg receiver Andrae Thurman finished with six receptions for 91 yards.
