Atlantic City, NJ - Kermit 'The Killer' Cintron lived up to his nickname on Saturday, annihilating Walter Matthysse in a second-round knockout to retain his IBF welterweight title.
Cintron (28-1, 25 KO's), a 27-year-old from Puerto Rico, knocked Matthysse down late in the first round and again as the second round opened before finishing him off just 29 seconds into the second round with a left-right combo to the head, sending Matthysse sprawling back to the canvas for good.
Matthysse (26-2), who hadn't been knocked down in his career prior to the match, never stood a chance. The 28-year-old Argentinian was fighting for the first time since October of 2006, the longest layoff of his career, and his dead legs showed.
