Apr 8, 2007, 12:24 GMT
Cardiff, Wales - Welsh boxer Joe Calzaghe retained his WBO super middleweight title with a third-round technical knockout of Peter Manfredo Jr. of the United States.
The referee stopped the fight with 1:30 left in the third round after Calzaghe had Manfredo pinned in the corner and was unleashing a barrage of punches on the former 'The Contender' star in front of 35,000 rabid Calzaghe supporters.
The 34-year-old Calzaghe (43-0, 32 KOs) won his 20th title defense in a dominant reign that has lasted nearly 10 years.
Manfredo (26-4, 12 KOs), who was awarded the title shot simply due to his popularity on the television series, was dominated from the opening bell. Calzaghe landed 61 jabs compared to just 16 by Manfredo and Manfredo's total of 15 power punches was dwarfed by Calzaghe's 40.
