Corpus Christi, Texas - Four-time former heavyweight champion of the world 44-year-old Evander Holyfield decimated Vinny Maddalone, scoring a third-round TKO after leaving his opponent's face bleeding and battered.
The bout was scheduled for 10 rounds, but Holyfield dominated from the first bell, sending the crowd home early.
Maddalone (27-4) lunged at Holyfield (41-8-2) early, and the former champ inadvertently head-butted Maddalone, opening a gash on Maddalone's forehead.
It was all downhill for Maddalone from there, as Holyfield pounded his overmatched opponent with left jabs and hooks.
At 2:48 of the third round, Maddalone's trainer signaled to the referee to stop the fight, and the official obliged.
Holyfield's name has appeared in the news recently as he has been tied to an Albany, New York legal investigation into an Alabama pharmacy that allegedly provided performance-enhancing drugs to it's customers. Holyfield has denied any connection to the pharmacy, and any use of performance-enhancing drugs.
