Kings pick Dominican Garcia, Frenchman Petro goes to Seattle

Los Angeles - Swingman Francisco Garcia was chosen Tuesday by the Sacramento Kings with the 23rd pick of the NBA draft. The 6-foot-7 forward-guard from Santo Domingo of the Dominican Republic averaged 14.7 points and just under four rebounds per game in three seasons at the University of Louisville. "I'm amazed he lasted so long, because he's a tough, tough competitor," college analyst Dick Vitale said. "He's a multidimensional player who can play three positions. The Kings certainly made a great choice. He will be a solid player for years to come." Two picks later, Frenchman Johan Petro was taken with the 25th pick by the Seattle SuperSonics. The seven-foot centre averaged 6.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in French Pro A for Pau Orthez. He is expected to be insurance for Jerome James in the middle. © dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
