Jeter: women's 100m dash is bigger than men's at worlds
Aug 28, 2011, 11:04 GMT
Daegu, South Korea - Usain Bolt may light up any 100 metres race, but the world championship bragging rights should be with the women's dash this time around, American contender Carmelita Jeter insists.
'It's gonna be a hot one. It might even be more exciting than the men's,' Jeter told reporters after winning her heat on Sunday.
The men's 100m normally catches most attention at any athletics meet as the blue riband race, but this time around the world and Olympic champion Bolt is rather the last man standing in an injury- and doping-depleted field.
The women's lineup by contrast, boasts all stars ranging from season leader Jeter to her Jamaican rivals who won the past two gold medals, Veronica Campbell-Brown and Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce. The women's final in Daegu is scheduled for Monday.
