Marion Jones stripped of Sydney Olympic medals

Lausanne, Switzerland - The International Olympic Committee Wednesday stripped former world champion sprinter Marion Jones of the five medals she won at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The decision was announced by IOC President Jacques Rogge at the end of a three-day executive board meeting. The IOC has yet to determine what moves to make in reallocating the medals. In October Jones admitted taking steroids before the Olympics. She won 100m and 200m golds plus a long jump bronze at the event as well as 4x400m gold and 4x100m bronze. Those results had already been erased last month by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), which banned her for two years. Jones, first woman to claim five medals in an Olympics, admitted in October that she took steroids ahead of the Games. © 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
