Aug 25, 2007, 13:51 GMT
Osaka, Japan - Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia kicked right at the bell to win back-to-back world titles in the women's 10,000 metres.
Dibaba, 21, ran away from Ethiopia-born Elvan Abeylegesse to win the gold in 31 minutes 55.41 seconds. Victory came even though Dibaba tripped midway through the race and temporarily dropped towards the end of the pack.
It was her fourth world title following 5,000m gold in 2003 and a 5,000m and 10,000m double in 2005. Dibaba will also compete in the 5,000m in Osaka in search of an unprecedented repeat of the double.
Abeylegesse clocked 31:59.40 and American Kara Goucher was a surprise bronze medallist in 32:02.05 minutes.
