Doha, Qatar - Double world champion Rashid Ramzi from Bahrain was stunned in the final of the 1,500 metres at the 15th Asian Games on Sunday as he was beaten on the finishing line.
Qatar's Daham Najm Bashair took first place in a photo finish with a time of 3:38.06 minutes from Bahraini Mansoor Belall Belal, whose time was recorded as .02 slower than the winner.
Moroccan-born Ramzi, who last year in Helsinki became the first man to win the 800m and 1,500m at the world championships, could not match the faster finish of the two other runners and recorded a time of 3:38.91 minutes.
Kenyan-born Belal, who took over the lap with some 200m to go, believed he had won the race and started celebrating after the crossed the finish line.
He collapsed on the ground with tears in his eyes as the official result was shown on the giant screen in the stadium.
