Marion Jones leaves Zurich for home ahead of race
Aug 18, 2006, 14:10 GMT
Zurich - American sprint star Marion Jones left Switzerland for home just hours before a scheduled start at the world's most prestigious athletics meet, the Weltklasse Golden League stop on Friday night.
Jones management said the three-time 2000 Olympic champion flew home in the early hours of the day 'for personal reasons.'
'She was already on the plane when we were informed,' said meet director Hansjoerg Wirz.
Jones, 30, was in her comeback season after a lengthy absence due to the birth of her son Tim and an alleged connection to the Balco doping case around the designer steroid THG.
Jones has never failed a doping test and protested her innocence ever since the case broke almost three years ago.
The American has run at several meets in Europe this summer and was set to compete in Zurich Friday night.
