Norwegian sprinter Okeke faces life ban
Aug 5, 2006, 17:34 GMT
Oslo - Norwegian sprinter Aham Okeke faces a life ban after failing a doping test for the third time, the Norwegian athletics federation announced on Saturday.
The 36-year-old was due to run in the 100 metres and Norwegian sprint relay at the European Championships that are to start in Gothenburg on Monday.
The a-sample taken after a competition in Gothenburg on 20 July found unnaturally high testosterone levels in his body. The result of the b-sample has not yet been announced.
Okeke has twice before tested positive. After taking pseudoephedrine he was banned for a month. He then was found guilty of taking testosterone.
He admitted that he had again taken testosterone after receiving it from a doctor to help him overcome a foot injury. 'It was a drastic attempt. I apologize to my team-mates,' he said.
