Gatlin is now officially co-owner of 100m world record

Monte Carlo - Olympic and World champion Justin Gatlin of the United States can now officially call himself co-owner of the 100 metres world record. The ruling body IAAF said Friday it had ratified the time of 9.77 seconds he ran on May 12 on Doha. Gatlin's time was originally given at 9.76 seconds, but the IAAF corrected it to 9.77 seconds five days later due to a timing error. Gatlin shares the record with Jamaican Asafa Powell, who ran 9.77 seconds in June 2005 in Athens and equalled that mark last Sunday at a meet in Gateshead, Britain. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
