New York, NY - Georgia Force QB CHRIS GREISEN, Kansas City DB KENNY MCENTYRE, and Utah Blaze WR/DB RYAN DENNARD have been named Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player, and Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 1 of the 2007 season.
OFFENSIVE: Greisen (6-3, 220, NW Missouri St.), in his second AFL season, completed 25-of-30 passes for 337 yards and nine touchdowns to lead the Force to a 69-65 win against the Arizona Rattlers in Phoenix on Saturday. Greisen distributed the ball evenly throughout the Force receiving corps, with three receivers each posting more than 95 receiving yards. The Force (1-0) will host their Southern Division rival, the Austin Wranglers (1-0), this Saturday in their home opener at Philips Arena in Atlanta.
ADT DEFENSIVE: McEntyre (5-11, 180, Kansas St.), in his first season with the Brigade and ninth overall in the AFL, is a three-time AFL ADT Defensive Player of the Year. McEntyre helped lead the Brigade (1-0) to a 54-41 victory over the defending ArenaBowl XX Champion Chicago Rush by recording two interceptions and two pass break-ups.
IRONMAN: Dennard (6-3, 215, Arizona St.), who is in his first AFL season, scored two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) and registered 2.5 tackles in the Blazes last second, 63-61 victory over the New Orleans VooDoo on Saturday. Dennard also had two pass break- ups late in the contest and recorded one tackle for loss from the linebacker position.
Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: San Joses Ben Nelson, Georgias Troy Bergeron, Los Angeles Lenzie Jackson, Las Vegas Charles Frederick, Arizonas Sherdrick Bonner and Randy Gatewood.
ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Grand Rapids Chuck Wesley, Dallas Colston Weatherington, Austins Dane Krager, Utahs Terrance Joseph and Chris Janek.
Ironman of the Week candidates included: Grand Rapids Jerome Riley, New Orleans Tyronne Jones, Columbus David Saunders, and San Joses Rodney Wright.
