Soundtrack Review: Sleepwalking

James Reedy (Nick Stahl) has to make an adjustment to his life when his sister Joleen (Charlize Theron) leaves her daughter Tara (AnnaSophia Robb) with him and runs off with a truck driver.  He tries to take care of the girl but ends up losing his job and having to crash at a pal’s (Woody Harrelson) pad.

Instead of losing her to a foster home he decides to steal away with the girl and go on the road with to return to his childhood home and his monstrous father (Dennis Hopper).  It doesn’t exactly sound like this film is going to be very uplifting.

This is a bit of a surprise since the opening song, ‘Come On, Come Out’ by A Fine Frenzy, is a breezy affair.

The music by Christopher Young that makes up the rest of the soundtrack seems to hit the bleak notes better than the somewhat happy tune that opens the disc.  The film sounds a gloomy one, but the soundtrack features film music that reflects that, after you get past the opening track.

I’d much rather watch a happier picture since the real world is far too disturbing as it is.
