From Monsters and Critics.com Soundtracks Reviews The Kite Runner and Atonement have some things in common. For one, both films seem to deal with a person’s guilt and for another; both of them are nominated for Golden Globes for their soundtracks. I don’t envy the committee that has to decide which one is a better work. It’s going to be a toughie. The Kite Runner tells the tale of a young boy in Afghanistan haunted by the guilt of betraying a childhood friend and is based on the novel by Khaled Hosseini. The music is composed by Alberto Iglesias, but also features Afghanistan artists Ahmad Zahir and Ehsan Aman and British-Iranian singer Sami Yusuf. The tracks are infused with the sound of Afghanistan, but some of them are more movie music than others. The ones by the guest artists are quite impressive and appear to be from releases that the artists have put out in their homeland and not particularly done for this soundtrack. Nonetheless they still have an intriguing sound and it’s always good to hear the music of another culture. The film does sound like a good one and may well be up for some Oscars (as I speculated Atonement might too). We shall see, but the soundtrack is a work of art and features some truly beautiful music. © Copyright 2007 by monstersandcritics.com. This notice cannot be removed without permission. |
