From the makers of Ice Age, comes the new animated film Robots. The movie tells the story of a world populated entirely by robots, where a young genius, Rodney, embarks on an adventure as he tries to realize his dream of making the world a better place. To accompany the release of the movie is the Robots: Music from the Original Motion Picture soundtrack.
The soundtrack opens with the uplifting track 'Shine' from soul singer Ricky Fanté, which is followed by hip-hop artist Chingy's recent single 'Right Thurr.'
Pop-rockers Fountain of Wayne return with a new song, 'Tell Me What you Already Did,' a fun song which is far too short at just under two minutes.
Fatboy Slim provides his latest single 'Wonderful Night,' whereas soul legend James Brown makes an appearance with his seventies hit 'Get Up Offa That Thing' which appears in a new club remix.
Earth, Wind and Fire collaborate with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis to provide the new song 'Love's Dance' from a forthcoming new EWF album. Also included is War's Latin-funk classic 'Low Rider.'
More recent songs come in the form of Stacie Orrico's 'More To Life' and Houston's 'I Like That' featuring Chingy and Nate Dogg.
Also contributing to the soundtrack is Gomez with 'Silence' and New Zealand group Steriogram with 'Walkie Talkie Man' which most people will be familiar with from the ipod adverts.
The Soundtrack concludes with a taste of the score used for the movie with the track 'Robot City.' Now normally a piece of score music at the end of a music album would seem out of place, but thanks to composer John Powell and his collaboration with the eccentric Blue Man Group the music piece fits right in. The influence of the Blue Man Group really gives the score a theatrical feel whilst still sounding modern with a crazy energetic feel. In fact you could easily imagine this track accompanying one of their Intel adverts. From the rather disjointed structure of the track, I get the feeling that this is either a collection of themes from the movie put together or perhaps the theme used when looking at the different parts of Robot City.
The Robots: Music from the Original Motion Picture soundtrack is a good collection of songs new and old from a wide range of music genres which hold up surprisingly well together as a unit. The lyrics of the songs often offer a message of not giving up, self-belief and releasing one's own potential. This is a fun soundtrack which is very easy to enjoy.
