‘Underworld: Rise of the Lycans’ – Soundtrack Review

By Mateo Gamboa Feb 6, 2009, 16:05 GMT

When listening to the thick electronic sounds of ‘Underworld: Rise of the Lycans,’ it is easy to envision the tantric combat sequences, black trench coats and dripping fangs that fans of the films have grown to expect from the franchise.

The soundtrack to the third installment in the Underworld trilogy contains industrial remixes of some mainstream songs like “Miss Murder” by AFI and “Hole in the Earth” by Deftones, and does a fantastic job of mirroring the aura found in the film.

Ex-Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland is featured in three tracks: “Deathclub,” “Two Birds, One Stone” and “Tick Tock Tomorrow, and Puscifer, Milla Jovovich and Alkaline Trio make appearances in the two previous Underworld soundtracks as well as Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.

The tracks on the disc lay down some pretty complex beats, but give listeners the same intense, dark action and suspense that one expects when watching Lycans and Vampires fight.

Listening to the soundtrack can become somewhat tiresome after a couple of fast-paced trance beats, but the slower songs on the disc are a nice addition to a fairly heavy collection of electronica.

While I am not a huge fan of the genre, I can certainly appreciate the relativity of the soundtrack to the film.
