The film is about a group of six people that get together to discuss the works of Jane Austen. They are Jocelyn (Maria Bello), Allegra (Maggie Grace), Prudie (Emily Blunt), Grigg (Hugh Dancy), Bernadette (Kathy Baker), and Sylvia (Amy Brenneman).
Sylvia is also going through a messy divorce from her husband Daniel (Jimmy Smits) and Allegra is her daughter who has come to live with her. Each member of the club takes on one of Austen’s six novels and finds that the novel chosen has many parallels to the events of their lives. The film is written and directed by Robin Swicord, based on the novel by Karen Joy Fowler, and the music is by Aaron Zigman.
I’m going to have to say that the movie looks to be a good one, but the soundtrack really didn’t do too much for me. It sounded like synthesizer music and really didn’t seem right for the potential drama (as I’ve not see the movie) of the film.
Some of the tracks are rather short, the shortest being 18 seconds and some running about 30 seconds. Perhaps I’m being too harsh on the soundtrack and may change my mind when I’ve seen the film, but at first blush the music didn’t do anything for me.
