Bioshock is an Xbox and PC game from 2K Games. It tells the tale of a plane crash survivor named Jack who makes his way to a lighthouse and finds himself transported into an undersea city.
The time frame is in the 1960s, but a business magnate trying to make his own utopia built the city, called Rapture, in the 40s. Unfortunately, things got very un-utopian and the population went mad to a degree. The city is full of sci-fi type technology and baddies in giant diving suits.
I’ve seen the commercial for the game and it has an interesting retro feel to it and those suits remind me of something out of Jules Verne (but on steroids). The game uses a mix of 40s and 50s songs since the city had radio broadcasts of artists of those years.
This EP collects three remixes of some of the music used in the game. "Beyond the Sea" by Bobby Darin and "God Bless the Child" by Billie Holiday is of the period but is remixed by Moby and Oscar the Punk.
"Beyond the Sea" is bouncy but foreboding and "God Bless the Child" is just plain creepy and eerie. Needless to say, that means they’re excellent for this mad world of the game.
"Wild Little Sisters" by Brian Lovely and Paul Patterson and is also remixed by the duo, however, I’m unfamiliar with the song and don’t know if it’s a “period” piece or original music from the game.
Game fans will definitely want to get it, but those unfamiliar with the game will still want to check out the haunting remixes of those classic songs.
