Broken English is the directorial debut of Zoe Cassavetes, who also wrote the film. She’s the youngest daughter of the late actor/director John Cassavetes. The film will also star her mother Gena Rowlands, Parker Posey, and Melvil Poupaud.
Posey plays a New York woman who is unlucky in love until she meets a mysterious Frenchman played by Poupaud.
The soundtrack features contributions from Scratch Massive, I Am Kloot, and Juan Trip. Only six of the tracks (“Dance,” “Seeing is Believing,” “Dirty Party,” “For Shock’n’roll,” “Soleil Noir,” and “Broken English”) actually have any lyrics and most seem to just be musical/electronica.
Scratch Massive is an electronic music duo (Maud Geffray and Sebastien Chenut) from France and contribute all but four of the songs on the soundtrack. Frank Arbaretaz also joins Scratch Massive on “A Lovely Desire.”
The tunes are good, but I’m not sure how they work in the film until I’ve had a chance to look at it. It seemed to be pretty loud and some of them did give me a headache.
It sounds like club music to me so I’d assume that Posey is “looking for love in some very loud places.” The film sounds interesting and I’d like to see it.
