Dexter Morgan is not your average serial killer. His adoptive father, cop Harry Morgan, raised him to only kill those that deserved to die. So Dexter takes out his violent urges on criminals and other guilty parties all while holding down his job as a blood spatter expert on the Miami police force.
He also meets a “fellow traveler” in his first season adventures in the form of the Ice Truck Killer, who will turn out to be a bit too close to home for our hero. Since Dexter is set in Miami, there’s quite a Cuban flavor to the music.
Original music by Daniel Licht also has this breezy flavor. Most personified by the show’s main title with its musical wink at the end. Marvelous stuff. There are also three monologues by Michael C. Hall that appear in the show.
There’s also “Conoci La Paz” by Beny More from 1960 and Andy Williams’ “Born Free” (which plays into a big plot point towards the end of season one). Kinky remixes the “Dexter Main Title” and Jon Licht does a sort of rap in “Die This Way.”
A nice touch is that the CD case is done in blood red (at least my review copy was this way). This CD offers some great music from a great series.
