Vacancy is a horror movie about a couple that checks into the hotel room that you don’t check out of. There are some nasty types that sneak up on you and murder you if you happen to have the bad fortune to stay the night – call it a no star motel because nobody lives to recommend that you stay away.
Composer Paul Haslinger got to check in and compose the soundtrack for this throw back to those 70s-type horror flicks. He does a good job in that it has some good “chase” music (and believe me our poor couple get chased quite a bit by the baddies).
The title theme even uses what sounded like a bad transmission to me. Somewhat jarring noise, but I assume that it was made with a computer (unless they had an old car in the studio). Whatever the case, it serves the musical storyline well.
As a bonus you also get tracks remixed by Michael Fakesch (“Vacancy Variant Acid”), Christoph Harbonnier (“Temps Perdu”), and Lustmord (“Transmutation Void”).
Vacancy was a good horror movie and I thought that Haslinger served it well in the composing (or decomposing) department.
