Soundtrack Review: ‘Transformers’

Soundtrack for the movie Transformers: The Movie ...more
Transformers – More than meets the eye! If you were a child of the ‘80s then you more than likely remember the vehicles that transform into robots either from the toy line or the animated television show.
Now Michael Bay brings our transformable pals to the big screen as a summer blockbuster with Peter Cullen returning to voice Optimus Prime. The human protagonists include Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Tyrese Gibson, Jon Voight, John Turturro, and Hugo Weaving (as the voice of the evil Megatron). The movie opened big and set a record $152 million as the biggest opening week for a non-sequel (but there’s already talk of two more sequels to the film).
I suppose I need to start with the last track of the soundtrack in that Mute Math performs the “Transformers Theme” from the television show. The fanboys (and girls) will be glad to hear this version of a tune that woke them up on Saturday morning (or whenever the bots aired in your area).
Otherwise the album features music from artists such as Smashing Pumpkins (“Doomsday Clock”), Linkin Park (“What I’ve Done”), The Goo Goo Dolls (“Before It’s Too Late”), and others.
The soundtrack is good and sound like one befitting a big summer action movie. I suppose that other fans will be disappointed that “The Touch” by Stan Bush (from the ’86 Transformers animated film) hasn’t been covered, but there’s always a chance when those sequels start pouring out.
‘Transformers’ is now available at Amazon. Visit the soundtrack database for more information.
