Soundtrack Review: ‘Ratatouille: What’s Cooking?’

Soundtrack for the movie Ratatouille: What\'s Cooking? ...more
Fred Mollin is a well-known composer for film and television as well as a producer. He won a Juno Award in 1984 for Best Children’s Album with his group the Rugrats (not the Nickelodeon television show). He now returns to kiddie music with this album inspired by Disney and Pixar’s recent hit Ratatouille along with his Blue Sea Band.
The album obviously is food inspired since the main character in the film is a rat that has a predilection for gourmet food instead of the scraps that his rodent brethren prefer. So we have songs like ‘Cheese Please,’ ‘Taco Grande,’ and ‘Banana Split for My Baby.’
Although the film is set in France and some of the songs have a French feel, the songs move through a range of styles and settings as well as foodstuffs. A cavalcade of guests including Chris Stapleton, Troy Johnson, Perry Danos, Tim Buppert, Tom Hambridge, Kim Keyes, Johnny Neal, Lari White and Mark Johnson joins Fred and the band. The album is fun and also includes a collection of kid-centric recipes in the liner notes.
Quite a fun little album, even if you’re not a rat. Bon appetite!
