Soundtrack Review: Charlotte's Web
By Douglas Strassler Feb 15, 2007, 13:29 GMT
The favorite children’s story
Elfman utilizes all sorts of illustrations. “Radiant” features harp, woodwinds and piano, while “Some Pig” enjoys more percussive elements as well as guitar and fiddle, and builds to a breathtaking tempo. “Terrific” also employs the same amount of woodwind instruments. Then there is a song like “Humble,” which captures several separate feelings. Truly, his work is so versatile, and he finds original ways to use music to support every scene without ever calling attention to itself. Where is his Oscar?
Sarah McLachlan also sings the theme song, though unlike her best songs from the 1990s, “Ordinary Miracle” proves to be rather generic and familiar. That’s too bad – Elfman and the movie deserved better.
