The community of Huntington, West Virginia is home to Marshall University.  The football team is returning from a game in Greenville, North Carolina when tragedy occurs.  The plane crashes and all seventy five people on board perish.  The majority of the lost were from the Marshall football team.

The dead included the thirty-seven football players, the coach and five members of his coaching staff, Marshall's athletics director, the team trainer and his assistant, twenty-two boosters, and five crewmembers.  The University is stunned by this tragic loss of life that happens in one fell swoop.  There’s even talk of not continuing the football program.  However, they decide to continue on and hire coach Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey).  It’s up to Lengyel to rebuild the team and to rebuild the devastated community’s faith in the new team.

We are Marshall is the new movie from McG based on the true life events chronicled above.  Composer Christophe Beck does the scoring chores on the film.  His score follows along the lines of the various ups and downs of the story.

For example, the score starts off on a somber, melancholy note and gradually moves towards a triumphant conclusion.  You can see the arcs of the storyline playing throughout the score.

Whatever the case, Beck follows the emotional arch of the movie and provides the musical underpinning of the film.  Those that enjoyed the film and were inspired by the story will want to pick up the soundtrack so that they can repeat the aural experience of the film.

‘We are Marshall’ is now available at Amazon. Visit the soundtrack database for more information and a complete track listing.
