Soundtrack Review: ‘The Cheetah Girls 2: Special Edition’
By Patrick Luce Nov 21, 2006, 21:52 GMT

‘The Cheetah Girls 2’ soundtrack is the latest Disney Channel Original Movie album to get a special edition following the massive success of High School Musical and Hannah Montana.
The original Cheetah Girls 2 soundtrack debuted at #5 on the Billboard Top 200 charts, and at #1 on the Billboard Soundtrack and Children’s Charts. Since its release, the album has remained in the top 25 of Billboard’s Top 200.
The album features the Spanish flavor of the movie – which sees the girls hitting the road to Spain and was directed by Kenny Ortega (the director who unleashed Disney’s High School Musical on the world). The film is still rather formulaic with Ortega taking the girls on the road for a concert in Barcelona during a music festival.
The album reflects some of the movie’s formulaic feel thanks to plenty of poppy tracks that may fail to get the attention of an adult audience, but will quickly hook kids and teens. The album is filled with energy, and captures the spirit of what Disney has been doing with its recent string of hit “Teenie” films.
The new edition of the album contains the 13 original tracks plus two bonus tracks (“Route 66” and a remix of “Strut” – both performed by The Cheetah Girls). There is also second DVD disc that features concert footage of the girls performing five songs. The footage is from “The Cheetah Girls in Concert” special that aired on the Disney Channel in September. The disc also features an exclusive interview with the girls.
With Christmas around the corner, this new edition of the album will certainly find its way onto wish lists and will make a good present for any fan of the movies. While I wouldn’t recommend the album to adults wanting something with depth, it is perfect for kids just wanting some fun music and a good time.
‘The Cheetah Girls 2: Special Edition’ is now available at Amazon. Visit the soundtrack database for more information and a complete track listing.
