Soundtrack Review: ‘Hannah Montana’

Hannah Montana is a Disney Channel show that features Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus (his daughter). The show is about a Miley, a character with a dual life. Seems that she’s a huge tween rock star but in a effort to keep a normal life she wears a disguise onstage (a blond wig in the Clark Kent disguise mode) and only a few people know her secret.
Billy Ray appears on the show as her Dad and Manager Robbie Ray. Since Hannah is a rock star there’s quite a bit of music. Disc one features 13 tracks with 8 of them being songs sung by Hannah on the show, including ‘The Best of Both Worlds’ which is the show’s theme song. My daughter, who watches the show, was most impressed since the show usually interrupts the songs with bits of comedy, etc. and was glad to have them “uncut.”
The last 5 tracks are by different artists and are inspired by the show, including “Pop Princess” by The Click Five, “She’s No You” by Jesse McCarthy, “Find Yourself in You” by Everlife, “Shining Star” by B5, and “I Learned from You” by Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus.
Disc two is a DVD with 5 music videos for “Best of Both Worlds,” “Who Said,” “Just Like You,” “Pumpin’ up the Party,” and “The Other Side of Me” (all performed by Hannah Montana).
I have to say that I’m not the target audience and don’t regularly watch the show but the songs do have a certain listen-ability. I’ll also have to say that the target audience in my house (my daughter) was most happy with the CD when we listened to it in the car. She was happy to have the full songs and very happy to have a CD of one of her shows to listen to in the car.
So if you have a target audience type in your house I think that they’ll be very happy to get the CD. I think they’ll be even happier to get the DVD as a bonus. I think that fans of the show will be happy but I really don’t see a big crossover audience for Hannah Montana.
