Soundtrack Review: The Sentinel

I’m not sure exactly why major stars like Michael Douglas, Kim Basinger, and Kiefer Sutherland opted to star in The Sentinel. It’s a rather C-list piece, derivative of countless movies and television shows (not the least of which is Sutherland’s own 24).
Composer Christophe Beck comes off as equally imitative on the film’s soundtrack. The film is comprised of very run-of-the-mill action numbers, and the music follows (or maybe evokes) those cues. He uses bass rhythms to build suspense and then carry out the scenes’ plateaus. In “No Second Shot” he uses drums, and in “Summit Incident,” guitars.
He also uses the triumphant sound of trumpets in “City Hall” and on “![]()
