The movie may not be starting until Friday, July 7th, but Walt Disney Records will get you ready to see Capt. Jack Sparrow and company with the release of the soundtrack to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.
The soundtrack features the return of Hans Zimmer, who produced the first movie’s soundtrack, and will get you in the swashbuckling mood with the first track simply titled “Jack Sparrow.” From the opening notes, you can identify the tune with Depp’s first appearance in the original film.
Zimmer, who has been nominated for numerous Golden Globes, Grammy Awards, and Oscars, follows up the opening number with two dark and menacing tracks titled “The Kraken” and “Davy Jones” that left me dying to see these scenes on film.
The whole album matches the expectations of how good this film should be, and if it is any indication of the quality of the movie I can’t wait for Friday. The soundtrack is filled with moody tracks that match the tone of the first film, and surpass the music that helped make it a huge blockbuster.
The soundtrack also contains a bonus track “He’s a Pirate – Tiesto Remix.” The track features a remix of the Pirates theme by Dutch DJ Tiesto. The song sounds like it belongs in a club more than in a pirate film. It features Tiesto mixing sword sound effects, dialogue from the first movie, and the movie’s theme with electronic dance beats. I was more impressed with Zimmer’s work on the soundtrack, but this is a nice bonus track for fans of electronic rock.
Overall, I would highly recommend the soundtrack to fans of the movie. It sets the mood perfectly, and will leave you counting the hours until you get to see Sparrow and crew on the big screen again.
