Soundtrack Review: Ice Age 2: The Meltdown
By Douglas Strassler May 14, 2006, 14:14 GMT

John Powell has concocted a rather decent score for the recent hit sequel Ice Age: the Meltdown. In fact, the soundtrack fares a little better than middling movie from which it emanates.
Powell, who scored the animated Shrek before graduating onto The Bourne Supremacy and Mr. and Mrs. Smith returns to his roots with this orchestral score. All elements, though, are in play in “The Waterpark,” which features, strings, percussion and woodwind instrumentation. He also employs these in “Call of the Mammoths.” “The Boat and the Geysers” features heavy percussion and use of brass.
This is a fairly long soundtrack, running close to an hour. Powell’s music is eclectic and energetic. It’s a perfect companion piece for fans of the Ice Age movies.
