Soundtrack for the movie World\'s Fastest Indian ...more
The World’s Fastest Indian
Roger Donaldson’s film The World’s Fastest Indian tells the inspirational true life story of New Zealander Burt Munro, who spent years rebuilding a 1920 Indian motorcycle and ultimately broke the land-speed world record at Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats in the 1970s. Anthony Hopkins stars as Munro. And while the movie is sweet, it is not wholly memorable. The same can be said for the soundtrack.
J. Peter Robinson, a graduate of London’s Royal Academy of Music, has previously scored such films as Blind Fury, Jackie Chan’s First Strike and Rumble in the Bronx. What he does best is keep up a sense of kinetic energy to replicate the film’s subject matter.
Robinson uses a multitude of instruments to keep his action going, from a guitar melody in “Road Encounters” to piano, from brass to violin in many numbers, including the title track. For the more emotive moments in Indian, Robinson fuses strings and woodwinds to achieve the desired effect. It may not be a perfect showcase – but it does show promise.
