To recognise the growing appreciation of original soundtracks, The Classical BRIT Awards added a new category, 'The Soundtrack Composer Award'. John Williams picked up the Soundtrack Composer Award for his work on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and The Terminal, beating fellow nominees Jocelyn Pook for the Merchant of Venice and Nigel Hess for Ladies in Lavender. Other big winners included Katherine Jenkins who won album of the year and Sir James Galway who was awarded for his outstanding contribution to music.
